For those diving into Keto for Fat Loss are Performance #Repost Jacob Wilson (@get_repost) Studies show that both fasting and intermittent fasting raise blood ketone levels (Veech et al. 2004). It is likely because lowering liver carb stores and elevating certain fat breakdown hormones forces your body into ketogenesis (the product of ketones). – So how do you incorporate it? Well if your goal is to still gain muscle then keep the fast to no longer than 14 to 16 hours. If your goal is to accelerate ketosis for a few days you can go less than this but it likely will make gaining muscle very difficult. – Veech R. L. (2004). Some good info here in regards to meak frequency and nutrient timing #Repost @themusclephd with @repostapp The second lesson in this week’s Muscle PhD Academy investigates a very controversial topic! Meal frequency and body composition. This study looked at individuals that either ate 5 times/day 3-4 times/day or 1-2 times/day. What did they find? Statistically meal frequency DID NOT matter in regards to body composition! Body fat loss was the same across all eating patterns. Surprisingly enough there was a trend for 1-2 meals to cause the most body fat loss. The take home message is that when your goal is fat loss eat for when it’s convenient for you. You don’t have to eat 5 times/day because you think it’s going to “increase your metabolism.” The research shows that when in a calorie deficit body fat loss is the same regardless of the meal frequency. Remember to tune in tomorrow for more from The Muscle PhD Academy! And don’t forget about the Facebook LIVE Q&A tomorrow afterno...
